Sicily 3

After the excitement of Pietro's visit, and the olive harvest, I can catch up on our exploits in Sicily.

In these photos we're still in Ragusa - the upper town (Ragusa Superiore) which was built after the 1683 earthquake.  The upper town looks down on the old town - called Ragusa Ibla - which was also rebuilt, and contains most of the historic palazzi.

Lower Ragusa, called Ragusa Ibla, seen from Santa Maria delle Scale -  the church on the steps
between lower (ibla) an upper (Superiore) Ragusa

A bougainvillia brightens up the steps to Ragusa superiore

Bellissimi Dolci in the Caffè Italia

Ragusa Ibla from the top of the steps

A moor's head on the facade of a baroque palazzo is bizzarely caged -
to stop bits falling onto people below? To keep off the pigeons?

Fascisti architecture in Ragusa superiore - the post office building (1930) ...

... and Baroque architecture- the Duomo of Ragusa Superiore - S Giovanni Battista

Sky,  roof, wall ...
