We have always loved visiting Siena, which lies about 120 miles to the south of us here. Siena has the most wonderful duomo, and Barbara discovered that the floor of this wonderful cathedral, which is completely covered in the most wonderful marble intarsia scenes, and for protection is normally covered up, was viewable for a limited period, finishing this week. We had to go!
The train trip to Siena is a bit complicated, but we got there eventually - it took about three and a half hors, plus quite a long walk in - Siena being a hilltop town, being quite distant from its own railway station.

The view from the window of our B&B which was called "I Tetti di Siena" (The Roofs of Siena)
- for obvious reasons |

| The Campo and tower of the Palazzo Pubblico, seen from the main street |
| Nuns appreciate the artistry of Donatello's font, made in 1427 |

The first floor panel seen on entering the duomo displays the emblem of Siena (also of Rome)
and its surrounding districts
| The magnificent polychrome interior ... |
| The magnificent floor seen from a vantage point in the roof of the duomo |
| ... and the landscape of Siena seen also from the roof of the duomo |
| ... and exterior |
| Havinga a beer that evening in the Campo - a clear sky finally above the Palazzo Pubblico |
