Cycling in Viareggio again ...

A bit of a weather window, so we were off again to Viareggio again, this time to explore to the south among the pinewoods (pinete) and to go to the small town of Torre del Lago where Puccini lived and produced most of his great operas.

The pinete are very extensive, and we could have cycled for hours amongst pines, cypress and juniper growing on the flat sandy coastal strip which goes all the way north to La Spezia.

We were surprised to find that Villa Puccini was a relatively modest house, even though it was built by Puccini when he was, in his time, the equivalent of a wealthy internationally famous superstar.
