Fine night for the Presepe

At this time of year, many of the local communities mount a "Presepe Vivente" - which translates as "Living Crib".  In fact, the major part of these occasions is not religious, but consists of various tableaux where townspeople demonstrate country crafts of yesteryear - enacted in the wonderful setting of the streets and cellar rooms of the old town.

Flour being ground by vigorous action of a hand quern
A busy scene in one of the small piazzas
A blacksmith with small forge,  repairs an axe blade as his dog looks on ...
Beautiful hand made roses made of hammered copper
A wider view of the same scene
A country scene presented on one of the green spaces ...
... a grand place for a late picnic!
Two ladies pose with their pot of chestnut polenta - an acquired taste!
Up at the duomo, the floodlights produce a shadow play with the crowd
And change it for the better, we hope - a vintage sign seen in the bar later!
