Sicily 2 - Arriving in Ragusa

The towns in the south-east of Sicily were all devastated in 1693 by a massive earthquake.  This happened when the baroque movement was in its heyday, so the rebuilt towns have many splendid examples of baroque architecture from the time of the reconstruction.

As fans of the italian TV series Commissario Montalbano, we enjoyed visiting these towns and seeing many of the locations used in the filming.

We've only just got home today, after our plane was re-routed to Genoa last night, and we had quite a long road home via Pisa, an overnight stay in Lucca (thanks, Jill!) to arrive in Barga at lunch-time.

Pietro is here at the moment to harvest his olives, which we will give him a bit of help with, so I may post some olive-harvesting photos amid a slide-show of our Sicily wanderings ...
