Leaving on a high ...

High pressure has dominated Orkney's weather for the last week, so it was on another glorious morning that we boarded the MV Hamnavoe for Scrabster, and the first leg of our fifth(!) trip to Barga.

Our journey today was only as far as Helmsdale to visit with Jean, and have a hike to the hill croft above the town which was the home of her forebears before the Highland Clearances in 1820.

Stromness, a remote fishing town by any measure!
The spectacular cliffs and Old Man of Hoy seen from the deck of the Hamnavoe
View up Strath Halladale from the croft
Jake with Barbara and Bill
Monarch of the Glen -  we got a good view of a stag with hinds
 on the descent

  1. As an American friend put it when we met in the street before the weather broke down, 'Scotland can be awesome'.
I wanted to post a photo of you as you passed through Edinburgh but don't think permission to post a comment stretches to this. Your email account is claiming that it is full. Wishing you a safe and pleasant journey.
